World Continence Week is held from June 19 – 25 this year. It is the Continence Foundation of Australia’s annual national awareness campaign. This year’s theme, “Incontinence: no laughing matter”, tackles a common response by people to laugh off incontinence, accepting it as an inevitable part of childbirth or aging , not a health issue requiring specialist treatment.
Unicare Health is helping to raise the awareness of incontinence by sharing resources and initiatives of World Continence Week. This month, we have been giving out continence guides, healthy pelvic floor brochures, healthy bladder education materials and lots more, to the many customers that visit our showroom. We have also been sharing and retweeting Continence Foundation’s social media posts on facebook and twitter.

What does incontinence mean?
Incontinence stands for an uncontrollable loss of urine and/or defecation.
Incontinence is “no laughing matter”.
Bladder and bowel control problems are common. More than four million Australians regularly experience leakage from the bladder and bowel (incontinence). Although incontinence problems have a considerable impact on a person’s quality of life, many people do not seek help. Embarrassment often prevents people talking about their bladder and bowel problems. Some people restrict going out and have little social contact outside their home.
