1st Prize iPad Winner. Well done Brendan Wee! Senior Physiotherapist, SwanCare Group

Unicare Health October winner iPad   winner iPad

I’ve worked in both the Disability and Aged Care sectors as a Physiotherapist for about eight years now. I hate waking up early and have a strong dislike of mornings in general. However, my job gives me a reason to get up every day. I love working with people to help them get the most out of their own abilities and as a result their life. It is such a privilege to be trusted enough by clients/residents that they listen to your advice and take on board the interventions you prescribe. I respect every one of my clients and have learnt valuable lessons from each and every one of them. Indeed, most of them have such amazing life stories of overcoming hardships.

Many of my clients have to endure daily struggles with achieving basic ADLs that common people may tend to either take for granted or have never given a second thought to. Life is such a struggle for many of them yet they still find the energy and determination to make valuable contributions in society through their own work or involvement in charities and organisations. My clients inspire me every day and this helps keep me motivated and gives me the energy to do my best for them. I am happy to receive thanks whenever I help someone but really, I would like to turn that around and thank every client I’ve ever worked with. They give meaning to my life and for this I am truly grateful.

Well done Christina Lim who captured the essence of Occupational Therapy in her submission. Christina was one of our numerous runners up, all of whom received a Unicare Umbrella for their efforts.

umbrella-winnerI love Occupational Therapy because it is a profession that has a hard time defining itself as OTs enable people to find meaning in performing the common everyday blessings of spending their days with doing the things that not only needed to be done, but also grateful to be doing.

It is a the profession that believes and hopes that even with the difficulty of living a life, in the face of sickness, loss and pain, life is worth participating in, through the past, present and future, in every bit of it.

To be doing that with our department here in Hollywood in sharing this precious journey, is what makes this job so wonderful.
