Music and singing have been a large part of my life for as long as I can remember.

My life changed seven years ago, when I decided to complete a six week workshop exploring the barbershop singing art form. I was hooked! To see 100 woman singing acapella in beautiful harmonies with choreography was something I wanted to be involved in.

The group that ran this workshop was Perth Harmony Chorus who are Australia’s most successful ladies barbershop group. They have represented Australia eight times in international competition. They are a part of the international woman’s barbershop organisation, Sweet Adelines which represents 25000 singers worldwide.

I was successful in my audition and was invited to join the group. They are truly an amazing group of women, from all walks of life ranging from 18 to 75 years. I have made some great friendships with women both younger and older than me.

I’ve had incredible experiences with Perth Harmony Chorus including performing in shows, Christmas carolling for the City of Perth and competing at a national and international level.

Despite the all the sequins and false eyelashes, the greatest reward I have received for joining Perth Harmony Chorus is sharing the gift of music with an audience. To be able to create a character beyond notes and lyric enables the audience to connect with you on an emotional level. As an audience member it is those performances that you remember, just like I did seven years ago.
Also the opportunity to perform around the world and learning to become a better singer is fantastic!

I am very fortunate to have this as my favourite hobby.
