Have a Go Day is one of Perth’s largest, oldest, and most well-attended seniors’ community events.
Organized by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA, Have a Go Day Burswood has been going since 1992 and remains to be the largest single event specifically targeted at the over 55’s demographic.
This Livelighter event is designed to encourage seniors to stay active and healthy at home and in the community.
Seniors who attended the event had a great time patronizing more than 220 information and exhibition stalls, age-friendly entertainment and a wide variety of activities on the banks of the scenic swan river.
The Unicare Health team enjoyed a busy day introducing mobility and independent living aids to seniors who wanted to learn more about assistive technology products designed to overcome challenges caused by aging conditions such as arthritis, dementia, and incontinence.
On display were mobility scooters, seat walkers, mobility aids and an array of home care and independent living aids for seniors to ‘Have a Go’.
Independent living aids designed to overcome common challenges such as opening jam jars and bottle caps were a hit with seniors who were ecstatic to see how easily these tasks could be accomplished by innovative kitchen gadgets.
Our range of One-Touch kitchen aids, the one-touch automatic bottle opener, one-touch automatic can opener and one-touch automatic jar opener drew a lot of attention due to their innovative design and ability to open tightly sealed items automatically without any effort, making them ideal for people with weak and infirm hands.
Another favourite at the show was the Uccello Kettle, designed to make pouring hot water effortless and safe, especially for someone living with arthritis or Parkinson’s disease. Simply tip the kettle and pour. No more lifting! The Uccello kettle opens up a world of confidence and independence for anyone who needs to safely handle boiling water to make a coffee or tea.
Our range of handy reachers were also items that were most sought-after – a thoughtful gift for anyone who has trouble stretching or bending or who has limited hand strength. They are ideal for seniors experiencing difficulty bending or accessing items that are not within easy reach. These reachers come with different trigger handles to suit different abilities and are fitted with quality rubber tips for a superior grip.
While others perused through handy home care products, those who were looking to upgrade their mobility scooters were taken away by newer models that feature digital dashboards, USB outlets, flashy mag rims and LED lights.
Our new Nitro Walker in Midnight Grey was also a hit with those looking for a seat walker upgrade in a less flashy-red colour. We look forward to providing those who were interested in this walker with a free in-home trial to ensure that it meets their needs in and around the home.
A seat walker like the Nitro provides peace of mind and confidence for seniors who have a fear of falling while mobility scooters such as the Shoprider Rocky 8 provides independence for seniors who can no longer drive a car. Both options are great upgrades that will be cherished for years to come.
“Age is just a number, and we shouldn’t stop living because of it.” – quote from a visitor
Thank you
Unicare Health would like to thank our friends at the Seniors Recreation Council of WA for inviting us to Have a Go Day every year. We had a great time educating seniors on how to live more independently by providing free education and advice on the use of assistive living aids. Our thanks also go out to the hard-working volunteers who help to facilitate Have a Go Day every year.
We had a great time at the show and were glad to be exhibiting alongside our community partners such as Silver Chain, Advocare, MercyCare, Therapy Focus, Baptistcare, Juniper, Masonic Care, Catholic Homes, Bethanie, Hendercare, Visibility, Swan Care and more.
